1910 T211 Red Sun Baseball Cards
Product Details
Produced in New Orleans and distributed regionally, 1910 T211 Red Sun Baseball remains a very elusive set. Featuring minor league players from the Southern Association, the relative obscurity of the players and very limited nature has resulted in a somewhat lower interest for these green-bordered cards. Nevertheless, the low population and distinct look is enough to command strong values whenever they surface.
The 75-card 1910 T211 Red Sun Baseball set is comprised of seven minor league teams, with a heavy focus on the Atlanta Crackers, Mobile Sea Gulls, Nashville Volunteers and New Orleans Pelicans. The Birmingham Barons only have three featured players and the Chattanooga Lookouts were the only Southern Association team to not be included in the set.
Easily distinguished from other tobacco releases because of the colorful border, 1910 T211 Red Sun Baseball is also known to collectors as "Green Borders." The 1-1/2" by 2-5/8" cards are fairly standard for tobacco sets of the day and feature a front that is virtually the same as many of the other T-Series products, especially T210. The card design is simply a black-and-white image and text indicating the player's last name and team.
Offering a colorful contrast, the 1910 T211 Red Sun Baseball backs include a bit more personality. The large Red Sun Cigarettes logo, highlighted by a large red sun image with long rays, dominates the card back. Although the back notes it is part of the "First Series 1 to 75," no additional cards were ever produced.
Vintage minor league collectors may notice that the T211 checklist seems somewhat familiar. 1910 T211 Red Sun Baseball was actually released around the time as the final series of 1910 T210 Old Mill and includes many of the same players as the famed Series 8 checklist. However, the biggest card in T210, a fellow by the name of Joe Jackson, is not found in T211.
Although many tobacco cards could be considered scarce, 1910 T211 Red Sun Baseball takes that to another level. It is rare for more than a few to be available at any one time and putting together a complete T211 set is virtually impossible.
