2022 Topps Series 2 Baseball Cards Checklist

Making the key rookies short prints only is a trash move by Fanatics non-visionary Josh Luber. Inserts are not true rookies. This is just the start to them destroying the hobby. The best thing is they bought Topps just in time for the crash.

I get that Topps is going all in? to attract buyers before they are over by cramming all kinds of chasers and parallels (see Panini), but overall it’s a “meh” – most exciting card I’ve pulled is a Bo Jackson ’87 All-Star w/ a Justin Verlander back. Don’t know how rare or interesting that is (or ever will be) but haven’t seen any other wrong- backs discussed.

Walked to my LCS and bought a couple packs as I don’t have tons of $$ like many others. But I pulled a LaMonte Wade Jr Baseball Stars Autograph, a Mike Trout 87 Topps & a Fenway Park Fireworks Gold Foil with my Bronx Bombers of Stanton and Judge on front. I like Topps because it’s a decent price for me and if I get lucky I’ll get something.

Making the key rookies Super Short Prints only makes them inserts in most collectors minds. I will stay away as finding one is a needle in a haystack. Shameful money grab by Fanatics. I only care about true base rookies like most true collectors.

The print runs may be discernible by using the odds printed on the boxes vs. other known data. There is a guy on YouTube named Stryker Breaks who analyzes these things mathematically and then posts videos detailing the results. He’s very good at what he does and you get a good handle on the final print runs. Keep an eye on his videos, and I believe you’ll get your answer. So far, he has speculated that Series 2 was printed in roughly half the quantity of Series 1. But check him out for the details…

(A) this years design is horrible. But better than 2021

(B) are print numbers known for SP, sSP, and or SSSP?

I bought 1 jumbo box and was enjoying the rip, pulled a Buxton Home Field Advantage and a Rivera SSP so it wasn’t too bad until I finished opening the last pack and didn’t get an auto in the box. 2 relics NO AUTO. Paid over $200, NO AUTO = 1 star

Just read about Oneil Cruz getting called up from AAA to MLB. I saw him play yesterday (6/19) at Gwinnett, GA. He pinch hit late in the game and then played 2 innings in Left Field. Also acted as 1st base coach. But he wouldn’t sign any autos for the fans. He barely even looked at us when we asked. The autograph seekers say he’s a very tough auto to get. Same for Henry Davis who’s also in the Pirate’s system. Oh well.

Nope, no Jack Suwinski. Can you believe it..!! I mean, COME ON TOPPS….!! The hottest Rookie since Babe Ruth, far and away superior to Trout, Mays, Aaron, and all the rest. How could they forget about Jack Suwinski..!!!!

Did one jumbo box and finished the set. Nothing great about series two so will not be buying anymore.

Hank Aaron and Nolan Ryan are the two I have seen so far.

It’s looking like card #583 is the same card of Gerardo Parra from Series 1. One scan on ebay shows the same front as S1 and the S2 card back (#583). Need more info to confirm this. That would be quite the oversight by Topps…

Too many inserts kills these sets, its no wonder why these card companies have huge runs. Why can’t these card companies cut down on production? They should have people at card shows & ask the collectors what they do or don’t like about there product. Instead of just increasing production run every year basing it on sales. I like the base design of 22 Topps, but inserts kill this line. I think that if Topps did 3 series of 250 year, you wouldn’t need update series. I give it 3 stars would get 4 stars if weren’t for too many inserts.

Does anybody know how many Legendary Home Field Advantages there are? I only know of the Nolan Ryan one.

Looks like a repeat of the 2018 Topps Series 2. Witt, Rodriguez, and Torkelson are all in the set as SP’s, SSP’s, or Ultra SP’s.

Worst I’ve ever seen – Carpenter and Happ were never even signed by Cardinals for 2022 but they are in Series 2???

Evidently there isn’t enough cash in the Topps budget to do research with the Major League clubs. 90% of the rookie cards released in Series 2 are likely tomorrow’s commons even if the rookies make the big league club. Yepez is the only standout. Then again, when you have a practical monopoly on the business, you don’t have to care about quality.

Why would you buy 8 boxes?

Yeah, you’re right. 2019 Series 2 had nobody good at all.

Series 2 always lacks the big rookies as they usually hold them for the Update series or next seasons series 1 release. Also Franco, Witt, Rodriguez, and Torkelson’s true rookie cards were all in the 2021 Bowman’s best set which Topps released before Fanatics bought them out.

Unless they do NNO SPs for Witt/JRod/Tork, this is the worst checklist for any single Topps release I can remember. Just a brutal rookie slate.

Julio broke with the big club, but when was this deadline? No Suzuki? No Witt? Torkelson?

Wow. I remember in the past, the deadline for update was June 5. But lately Topps has been slacking big time on the Update sets.

I’m more curious about Topps Chrome now.

If you notice, I believe there are 3 players that are listed twice (Swanson, Stanton and Ohtani) maybe another. I’m thinking we see something like 2018 with those 1 per box or 1 in 2 box NNO Short Prints with Witt, Torkelson and possibly J-rod.

Lots of missing names on the rookie list. Plenty of time to add a Seiya Suzuki for example.

I second the question why are we getting a second Wander RC? That is a bit confusing. I also noticed that (the now retired) Gerardo Parra is getting a second base card as well. There’s probably more than just those two.

Within 5 minutes of this checklist being posted this morning, the price for this product dropped $20 USD on Blowout Cards.

A couple of observations in this set, 1st why is it that Topps can’t or won’t remember that Rickey Henderson played for the NEW YORK YANKEE’S in 1987 and not the A’s?!? I mean they at least got Reggie Jackson right in depicting him in an Oakland A’s uniform in his final season of 1987. And why is Oakland A’s pitcher Dallas Braden, who pitched not only a no-hitter but only the 19th PERFECT GAME in MLB history ignored?!? Just another glaring omission by Topps.

Didn’t include any of the big rookies, I guess Update will be loaded though. At least we got Cruz.

Adley R and Nolan Gorman missed the deadline. I don’t even think they’ll be in Update this year. We should get Bobby Witt and J-Rod though….

Using Gypsy Queen and Tribute as a reference, Bobby Witt Jr and Julio Rodriguez seems logical since there are autos present in those sets. That can leave Rutschman and Torkelson to Update.

Any educated guesses as to which “HOT” Rookie Cards might be in Series 2…?
