User Rating:

Although it arrived very late, 2020 Topps Chrome Update Series Baseball maintains the annual end-of-season chromium product for another MLB collecting year.

The Retail-exclusive Topps Chrome Update (TCU) set is found at Target for $19.99 per box.

As many collectors have noticed, there are two different Mega Box colors (white and blue). However, there is no difference between the two except for the box color.

Keeping with past editions, 2020 Topps Chrome Update Series Baseball comes in a Mega Box format with 28 total cards. The set takes key subjects from 2020 Topps Update Series Baseball and puts the 2020 Topps Chrome Baseball shine on them.

That means that multiple boxes will be necessary to complete the main set. However, based on the pack odds, the Refractor rainbow has shed a few colors that were found in 2019.

The checklist isn’t the strongest, but Update sets usually aren’t known for amazing rookies unless one or two breaks out. Unlike regular Update, Chrome Update cuts a lot of fluff by trimming the set to 100 base cards and 30% of those are True Rookie Cards or Debuts. The autograph checklist is huge and not too difficult to hit, but lots of no-name or middling players. Still, not a bad thing for a retail product. Refractors are extremely hard to hit (not counting the format exclusive ones). The only refractor I hit after opening 5 megas and 4 hanger is a 1/1 Superfractor.

Pricepoint, it is the same as last year. $20 for a Mega box, which is really a blaster box in disguise. A nice release for set collectors and Rookie hunters. Autos and refractors are just a bonus, very hard to find bonus.

Not sure what people were looking for in this product?

Probably the worst update product Topps has produced in recent memory. Subject matter consists of 50% all star memories no one cares about. Seriously, why would I care about Joey Votto’s 2010 all star game stats in 2021? Feel like an idiot for wasting my money on this garbage.

A fitting cap on a pandemic set that will forever be etched in “housebound ” card revivalists brains……beautiful product…….although a bit on the expensive side…….4 cards per pack. 7 packs per box. 28 cards total? Wow not for the kids another topps product geared specifically for the ” collecting elite” as i have seen packs go for as high as $15.99 @ card shops. Minor quibbles as the product speaks for itself….
