2020 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball Cards

I have been reading the comments and it seems to me that everybodys expectations of this product are just way to unrealistic! Those of you who have bought a case please go back and re-read what you have written and just how spoiled you totally sound i would guess that the ones whining and complaining that they opened a case and didnt receive enough “hits” to cover the cost of the case are either pretty close to the age of 21 or havent had ANY experience gambling .i will cut this short suffice to say i have paid $5.99 a pack $6.99 a pack $10.99 a pack the chrome ones i have paid $15.99 a pack at my local card shop . i am 94 cards short of a 350 card base set completion the minis quite a bit more i have gotten 5 framed mini autos 10 relic cards after opening approx 100-125 packs I enjoy this set (except down on the farm) havent experienced any rip cards yet but it has been a joy to put this set together 1 last footnote i went to my card shop and bought a pack of cards for 10.99 and to my surprise i got a dual auto relic book #d 02/10 of Bob Gibson & Lou Brock …..just enjoy the hobby and it will give back to you ..its when you take the hobby for granted and let greed and envy take over that you cant see the trees through the forest that you open a case and get nothing it is a hobby treat it like one your not a charles shwabb adviser just because you bought a case …… Lifes too short and age is so fast !

As time goes on this is the Best Set of the year, just a simple picturesque card to hold. Too Many retired players though in the set

I’m kind of torn on these cards. I really like the baseball cards themselves and even some of the quirky cards included. I could really do without the “down on the farm” type cards or random objects cards. I will say that out of the 3 relics or autos, I got no autos, and 2 of the 3 relics were pieces of shirts from non-baseball players. One was of a lady karate olympian and the other was the lady who sued to play little league baseball with boys in the 60s (which I had to look up). That is pretty lame Topps. Also, all the inserts seemed to be the same series in the box. Just a bad mix. I did get a mini metal card of Nolan Ryan /3 though, so that redeemed the box. Not likely to score that again and probably wouldn’t get a hobby box of this again.

Just a fun thing to pick up and not take too seriously. I think I liked the base card design from last year, but still has fun insert cards to look out for.

Not the Allen Ginter I’m used to seeing. One hobby box. That’s enough for this year. Blah.

Well seems like people expect autos/relics and 1/1 in every pack or box. These are nice collectible and “fun” products for most of us. Besides, the scarcity of various products increases both real (and perceived) value. For me, it’s an excellent product that continues to encourage new hobbyists and collectors. Good luck!

Replying to my own post, I know. But I had 3 packs left from the hobby box and figured the hits were all unpacked. I was wrong! In the very last pack was a framed mini Jacob DeGrom Cloth Card S#’d 03/10. That doesn’t happen very often with Topps. Usually the box is either short something or you pull an amazing, but *!”*$!&* expired, redemption.

But I must admit this isn’t the 1st A&G hobby box to have yielded an extra hit for me. And both times the extra hit was something really nice (IMHO). This time, I’ll put the cloth mini in that camp. (Last time it was a Scwarber rookie auto/relic book. Braggadocio 😇 sorry.)

Haven’t opened enough to give an in-depth review yet but still… After 1 hobby box and 1 retail blaster I am satisfied. The hobby box yielded a decent variety of hits: mini A&G back SP, framed mini auto, full size tissue relic, and a full size bat relic. But the blaster? Those are, more often than not, a time filler. But every now and then I’ll pull something completely unexpected. Today it was a Lindor glossy 1/1. Buying and busting A&G can be similar to busting Goodwin Champions. You might strike gold, you might strike out. It’s a gamble. That’s the draw, for me anyway. Today it worked in my favor.

So disrespectful to the Marlins. I hate Topps.

I bought a box today. VERY disappointing. 3 hits? 2 were part of a shirt of a tattoo artist & Brit baseball fan. What is that garbage?? No autos; nothing serial #’d. $200 Cdn for what?? Lucky if I got 1 card worth more than $8. Never again. I don’t know what happened to the hobby but we have to pay $300+ for 1-8 packs & HOPE we get 1 card worth $80.

I can only give a 3 based on what I busted. The 3rd was my bday so I decided to splurged and buy myself a hobby box for a $120. I figured 3 hits, maybe a chance or two of a low serial numbered mini… NOT THE CASE!!
First the hits all in the first three packs on top: Cavan Bigio mini auto (ok decent, I’ll take that), Ramon Loreaunao game bat, Jeff McNeil game Jersey. The killer: I hit a hot box where every card was silver parallels with the exception of the mini and the one insert you get. There’s no way I can use any of those cards towards the set now. It’s like I have half regular and half silver.

Trey what exactly is the deal with the silver? Are they like the “gold” to regular Topps? I really was aiming on putting a set together and buying what singles I needed online and the silver ruined that. Unless they are worth a ton I feel I got screwed. Yordano on the Astros was the only good RC I got in the silver.

Anyone else with info please comment. I’ll welcome it proudly.

I was’nt sure what was going on

I have a question on: Case Hit
I opened my first box , got 2 colored patches and A Fernando Tatis Mini Auto (MA-FT), So I decided to open 2nd box ,When I opened it, It was all What looked like chrome Cards . Totally different then the flat cards of the 1st box, The cards have a sheen to them , Is this box that is a Case hit? 2 more colored patches and a Anthony Kay mini auto(MA-AK)

I opened some Allen & Ginter last year and thought it was really cool, so I got a box again this year. And again, I’m happy with the product. I like the antique aesthetic, the non-baseball players are fun to see, and the inserts are also really well designed. I realize this product isn’t for everyone – and you definitely shouldn’t expect to make any money ripping packs – but I always look forward to seeing what card I’ll pull next.

A&G is an annual hit/miss – this set attracts a very particular veteran quirky collector – bucking the investor/flippers trend. I usually avoid but I dig the gold-boarder minis in value packs so if I buy any it’s only those.
Open 10 retail value packs (3 packs + 3 mini gold boarder) so 30 packs. Decent card collation, 1 auto- base Tim Anderson. No card damage, but 1 Value Pack had a glossy advertising card as 6th card… so really only 5 cards per pack (retail packs are 6 card packs).
DOES TOPPS COUNT THE ADVERTISEMENT AS A CARD? Seems like BS?
I remember Topps doing this before but NEVER as a counting toward the pack – only as a way to add thickness and weight variation to throw off pack searchers in retail.
One of the Value Packs also had a gold mini cello missing a card… so 2 instead of 3. So it appears I got cheated out of 3 cards and 1 gold boarder mini.

I have been an A&G fan for years….always look forward to it. It simply has a special place with me. Nope…..this is a trainwreck. Simplistic design and awful pulls. So disappointing.

Very possible that you will get the same one, but your guess is as good as mine. Thank your lucky stars it wasn’t a Panini Product – you would probably NEVER get a replacement just their lousy 150 panini crappy points, but with Topps it’s still a gamble, but I would bet YES! I’ve always had good luck with redemptions, and replacements with that company.

I cracked open the box. Oversized boxloader was a Shohei Ohtani rip card. Took a chance, all the mini cards were stained glass minis. So much for one stained glass and two other different minis as advertised on the back of the card. Brooks Robinson, Roberto Clemente and Juan Soto . 3 excellent cards, great choice to rip this card

Opened a case. Can’t speak for other’s misfortunes but I did notice that several packs were missing the mini cards. While some did have 2 minis still short a bit. Hits wise was good – 3 rip cards (1 dual), framed printing plate (Bernie Williams), dual auto of Chip and Joanna Gaines and 5 other autos. Have had better years hit wise but player selection solid with the rookies.

I got a damged mini auto will the give me the same auto back or a different one thanks

If you haven’t purchased this yet – DON’T!! The worst that I have seen in recent years. It is full of junk. Bought a case and I may have just burned my $$ up. 7 Autos and 1 RIP, the rest just ugly memorabilia. And to think I was going to get 2 cases…thank you lord for talking me out of it. JUNK JUNK JUNK. I would like to take the folks who came up with this crap and…well you know. I wish I could rate it less than a 1 star, I would. I’m done with Allen and especially Ginter. This was the last straw. Thanks for NOTHING Topps.

That truly sucks. Bought a case and it’ll be here soon. I’ve got a weird feeling that I’ve thrown a little over a grand away. Oh well, it’s only $$$ and in 100 years who’s going to care….lol

UPDATE: thinking those first two boxes had to be some kind of fluke, I was dumb enough to try another box: 3 more single color patches…the running total is 8 single color patches–and 1 Barry Zito auto. This is an incredibly flawed product for today’s market–there’s just no value. The price needs to be cut in half at best and just make it a product we can collect like the old days…as is, it’s just another over-priced junk release from Topps. Obviously, they have sacrificed the lower end products to the breakers and “investment” crowd.

Two stars simply because Topps royally screwed up the hits in this product. Beware of buying packs from any open boxes. I watched three cases opened yesterday at our local and in EVERY box, the three hits were in the top three packs in the box. Talk about being stupid! Love the product but it should not be searchable !

Broke a case of this tonight. 12 boxes of cards at around $130 each, what do you get? 4 autographs. 2 Sam Hilliards, 2 Lane Thomas. One of the autos was damaged. Rip cards just had the non-auto minis inside. Rest of the hits were relics, all the normal single color Topps napkins. Oh yeah, and I had several boxes that were missing hits, not that they would have been anything good anyway. I don’t recall ever breaking a case of cards and being left with a pile of junk this sad. We all know that terrible cases happen, but this…this is something different. I think Topps just got greedy with this one.

2 hobby boxes: 1 Barry Zito auto & 5 single color patches…FIVE!!! What a joke. Honestly, this product hasn’t been very good in years, but this is a new low. Besides the laughable quality of the “hits” in the boxes, there is nothing fresh about the design (there never is with A&G). No parallels…nothing but 5 single color patches…oh, and a Barry Zito auto. As with most of Topps’s lower priced products (yeah $120 a box is now low end), it’s just not much better than Goodwin Champions when it comes to value. Honestly, I’m just plain disgusted.

9 Ways to First Base Minis.

How is the one they show a way to get to first? All the catcher has to do is pick the ball up and tag the player so he does not get first base. Unless the home plate umpire is joe ”no neck” west or hernandez they will blow the call and call it a strikeout after the catcher drops the ball. They should really take this one out.

If this is in fact the final design – these look great! Devil is always in the details though
