2020-21 Panini Certified Basketball Cards

Layton Sports going on about monster hits in boxes that equate to about 25% of the cost of the box. This is what unknowing new consumers cannot seem to wrap their heads around. Simply amazing to me.

Attractive looking cards, the only thing I do not like is the thickness of the card stock is thin.

To all those folks saying “Panini is not dictating the price” um I guess you haven’t checked out their Dutch Auctions, where they set the starting price super high and the low end price still high as well. The only people who buy at those prices are the box breakers as they figure if they get a box for a lot of money and then make it back and then some by selling multiple spots for a box break. That my friends along with the zombie Walmart/Target flippers (they look like zombies to me, roaming around seamlessly, no job, unkempt, dressed like they just came out of the grave etc.) who get to those stores early and literally line up and wait for hours on end to buy up all the boxes, packs, etc. so they can turn around and flip them for a profit ruining the hobby. There is a lot of inexperienced folks who have also started collecting as this year’s crop while ok, isn’t nearly as talented as last year’s. Folks passing on last year’s products to buy this years is what the biggest shock is. It’s like passing on a 2003 product and passing on getting a LeBron rookie to pay more for a 2004 product for the possibility of pulling a Dwight Howard RC. I have seen folks get super excited on YouTube after pulling a LaMelo Rookie out of an overpriced box of Hoops. Sorry folks, but LaMelo won’t be as big a star as Zion, Ja or even RJ Barrett. So, if their Hoops RCs are going for like $40, then why on earth would you think that LaMelo Hoops Rookie would be worth $150? It’s great that the hobby has become popular and prosperous again. It’s also encouraging that new people and generations have joined as well. But as a long time collector, it is annoying and frustrating that breakers and flippers have ruined the hobby by making it too expensive or impossible to get packs or boxes. Hopefully, if people show some self-restraint and refrain from overpaying for Blasters, packs etc, the zombie flippers will move onto something else, and the hobby and box prices will return to normal. Oh, and the boxes for this are overpriced. So 1 star.

Alright. All of you above complaining about price are grossly misinformed.

Here’s a secret for everyone PANINI DOES NOT DICTATE THE RETAIL PRICE. It’s the distribution companies like GTS, Southern Hobby etc. etc. who are price gauging beyond belief / holding back product from you LCS. That’s what’s driving market prices up. It’s supply and demand fellas. Y’all gotta grow up already and stop the whining.

I get it, you can’t rip multiple boxes anymore and enjoy being surrounded by cards / put full sets together for under a couple hundred bucks but there are people (like myself) who were severely in debt / at the end of their rope who have been able to seize oppurtunity in the card market to build real businesses out of it given the demand and current boom. Don’t like it? Go kick sand. Hate the price point? Don’t buy it. For every 1 of you salty complainers on the internet yelling “get off my lawn” there’s 5 fresh new buyers entering the hobby finding love in this new wave of how the market works. So either get on board or stop the crybaby BS.

This product is a hard pass for me. The price point is insane. I hope panini is just price gouging during the pandemic and will return to reasonable prices in the future.

Well we almost made it to $100.00 at $89.99 a pack which brings it to $8.99 a card!!!!! so you can pull a Jevon Carter autograph. Panini R U Crazy ? Thanks for ruining what use to be called a hobby. !! Its more like legalized gambling now. How about you making at least one product for the collectors that enjoy just opening a pack with their kids and getting a regular issue Joel Embiid or Lebron James or favorite player. Collectors don’t care about all that bling you bring with a extremely high price . panini is destroying the basketball hobby market! can we start a petition to bring topps/upper deck back? more competition is good for everyone.

LaMelo is no Zion, so there’s no lottery price to go after!

This is a rather low end product and it shouldn’t be priced for group breakers only.

People need to stay disciplined, Panini is just cashing in on the increased demand/hype, but the products don’t justify such $$$.

100% agree with Boston guy the price is overpriced it time to go back at the price before covid the only person who benefited it the breaker 🏀

Agree with Boston Guy, prices are way to high for this product. Exactly no Zion to chase. I won’t be buying any basketball until the prices adjust back to where they should be and if they don’t adjust, it was fun while it lasted but this is a hobby, not something I have to do!

I love certified, but with the price point now it is too expensive to buy a single box.

Panini should have maintain the following tiers:

Tier 1:
Hoops $100
Donruss $100
Revolution $100
Certified $150

Tier 2:
Absolute $200
etc…

2018 was great since the was last year the price of each box was affordable.

With this season, there is no longer a Zion level player and Panini should adjust back or else they would experience a bubble and lose collectors from your average Joe.
