An annual tradition where free is actually free, 2019 Upper Deck National Hockey Card Day offers a complimentary pack to collectors in Canada and the United States just for showing up at their local participating card shop on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

However, unless you are planning to be in both countries that day, you will need to rely on friends to trade with or check around online to build the entire set.

2019 Upper Deck National Hockey Card Day Set Details

Once again split across country lines, the 2019 Upper Deck National Hockey Card Day checklist has two different versions.

The Canadian set offers 16 cards with special subsets for Canada's Rookies, Pride of Canada, and Hockey Heroes.

Similarly, the version in the United States also works with 16 cards, using subsets honoring America's Rookies, Stars in Stripes, and American Icons. These subjects are either born in the USA or they are international players.

The 16th and final card in each 2019 Upper Deck National Hockey Card Day release is not issued in packs. Instead, these act as a purchase incentive for collectors to buy $10+ of UD collectibles during NHCD. Doing so in Canada earns a John Tavares Memorable Moments card that celebrates his hat trick with the Maple Leafs on October 7. The USA incentive is Alex Ovechkin raising the Stanley Cup on June 7.

Inserts include Victory Black rookies, NHL Global Series cards, and a few limited autographs.

And both American and Canadian collectors should be able to find uncut sheets at select retailers for the event.
