2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball Cards

So I JUST opened 2 hanger boxes with 67 cards per box and got THIRTY ONE DUPLICATES in only TWO hanger boxes! All very basic cards. Topps collation needs improvement AND they need to stop printing so many of the common cards. In my Update set, I had some players with 7 or more duplicates, but I still had to go to eBay to complete the set. So disheartening for set collectors.

Set will maintain long term value because of a strong rookie class , other than that same old series 2 product line , I’d invest in holding some of these boxes for the long haul, 2011 topps update potential

Is the Mark Melancon (#360) an uncorrected error? Has hitting stats on the back.

I thought overall nice set. I bought a Series 2 Hobby box at the National Sale Convention in Illinois. One the cards a Fernando Tatis Jr Rookie Card. I also pulled a Vladimir Guerrero Jr Rookie card but it had no card # over the Series 2 spot on the back. Is there an error card or a special card?

Wayyyy too many inserts and variations, but I have grown to like the design this year. Disappointed that Vlad Jr. is an SP and not just a normal RC.

Chris Clive, you hit the nail on the head. This is supposed to be a FUN hobby and many people are treating it like they’re SUPPOSED to get an ultra valuable card in every pack they open or it’s a waste. If people want that, then they need to stay away from base product like this. There IS product out there that is more expensive and will get you autographs in every box.

some nice cards for sure. are the HR Challenge cards the same photo in series 1 and 2?

I think those who are complaining about them “ending up in a landfill”, should have quit this hobby long, long ago.

By its nature, it is wasteful. It is stupid. Most of us acknowledge this, and we still like collecting baseball cards.

If you REALLY just want an autograph of vlad, or an autographed card of vlad, you can just buy one, you don’t HAVE to throw away 8 boxes of cards to get it.

If ALL the cards were awesome, what fun would that be?

Will Walgreens get Series 2?

Yeah I have to agree that these Jumbo cases and the silver packs were a lot better. Came away with a legacy dual auto of Jeter/Judge and a 150 all-time greats redemption which was completely unexpected since they are like 1 in 19,300 or so. It’s for an original 1957 Topps Roy Campanella #210

Just opened a hobby case and was very disappointed. 3 autos and rest are relics, WTH Topps! Could of at least distributed evenly. Even the SP’s and serial number cards were nothing noteable. Only good thing out of it was 5 Vlad Jr SP’s. Makes me skeptical in buying another Topps hobby case product.

Thank you for your help. I’ll give Topps 5 Stars now that I have something special. In addition I pulled the Guerrero card and only took 3 boxes from Target. Pretty good odds. I haven’t been this lucky in a long time.

I opened a box of Topps Series 2 from Target, got a 150 Anniversary Commemorative patch card of Ichiro. On the back, in the right hand corner there is a 1/1 in gold lettering. Went on E-bay and the same card is being sold for 99 cents, don’t know what the back of the card says. If mine is 1/1 why are there other ones and since mine has 1/1 does it have more value. Thanks for your help.

Where is the information on the sketch cards. I opened my second box, first pack and hit an Aaron Judge Sketch card. Where is the info on these ?

I pulled a GAP-JR and it’s numbered twice. Is this something that just got messed up with printing?
102/150 then under that it has 013/150.

Keeping the review to the opened case of jumbos – checklist is definitely better for a Series II. Having Eloy, Tatis and Alonso definitely help. A lot more lower numbered hits and parallels which seems to indicate a much lower print run. Same thing with silver packs – 1st series would get a parallel 1 in 5 or so packs… this one was 1 in 2. Back to multiple SPs per box. Solid case – 3.5 stars

The worst part about these inserts from what I’ve seen and based on my own pulls is that nearly every Evolution and Significant Stats card has a heavily damaged lower corner. The parallels are fine.

Vlad SP is around 4-5 per jumbo case on average

Haven’t opened my boxes yet but rating it a 5 to make up for the last three ratings.

@Tim this is probably the best Series 2 has ever had for rookies. Not sure who you’re looking for but the big names are all there.

@Michael you are not going to pay 1990 prices for a box of cards in 2019. For the rookies that are in this set the prices are surprisingly low. And the distributors set the prices not Topps.

Not my favorite design but the photos are done really well. Solid outing from Topps.

For those wondering the Vlads are anywhere from 4-6 per jumbo case from the few dozen breaks I’ve seen so not too hard to get.

Cards are great. In 1990 Topps tried to kill the hobby by over producing. Now they are trying to kill the hobby by charging outrageous prices. I’m in the top 1% of the wealth in the world(not that hard to do in this country) I didn’t get there by wasting money. I collect for fun, not investment. P.S. Can’t anyone sign their name so it can be read. Even Shoeless Joe Jackson, who was illiterate, could sign his name so it could be read.

Topps un-necessarily uses up at least 4-5 trees worth of paper here.. just to make up all of the un-needed inserts… unfortunately with this set – within the first week after release, at least 4 tons of cardboard will needlessly go directly to landill sites as the garbage created will mostly not be recycled properly..
lets stick to low-number sets where every card has at least some value and gets either kept in a PC or traded to someone who wants it for their PC… this insane volume of common production mostly to be thrown out .. like your money if you buy this.. is a huge waste for everyone except for Topp$ who loves to print money as long as those who dont know enough will pony up to buy way too much of this.

Looks decent but hoped for more of the rookies.

Are these the correct cards or typos?

How can the Yankees be San Diego?

Will card 625 have those characters on it.

FOF-10 Troy Tulowitzki – Colorado Rockies
FOF-10 Todd Helton – Colorado Rockies
FOF-10 Nolan Arenado – Colorado Rockies

I predicted these names on the faces of the franchise for the rockies.

Just like the first series, Topps continues to ignore the 1984 Detroit Tigers, especially the HoFer’s on that World Champion team, Jack Morris and Alan Trammell, in the’84 subset.

Guessing that Vlad will be one per case, like they did with Acuna and Gleyber last year. Any chance they do a 2nd insert per case? Maybe Chavis or Paddack slips in then.

As long as MLB teams keep manipulating service time for young players, you can expect the big rookies to be in the Update set

And of course for its main set Vlad Guerrero Jr is released as a limited SP variation insert and not as a regular issue rookie card which Topps will hold out to headline its update release in October.

Will the Vlad Guerrero Jr 700 SP fall one per case?

If it was guaranteed one 700 card per case, I’d buy a case. If the odds are longer than that I’ll pass altogether and wait for Update or just buy 1 or 2 loose boxes and hope for the best.

Checklist looks okay, much of the best rookies future wise are going to be in update it appears now. Tatis, Eloy, Alonso respectively are the 3 best rookies on here but Update for 3 years in a row now will have the best rookie base class checklist of Riley, Chavis, Vlad Jr, Senzel, Rodgers and Hiura i’m assuming.

All falling under the 150 Years of Professional Baseball line, the past is remembered via Greatest Moments, Greatest Players and Greatest Seasons.

Babe Ruth needs to be in all three of these.

Greatest moment: Pick one: 60 home runs or 1932 series called shot.

Greatest player: This one is a no brainer

Greatest season: 1927 yankess.

Faces of the Franchise displays a trio of players with one being a current star and the other two from the team’s past.

They had better have the rockies in this set or I will not collect it at all no matter how good it looks.

Current star: Nolan Arenado.

Stars from past: Todd Helton and Larry Walker or Vinny Castilla or Dante Bichette or Andrés Galarraga or Troy Tulowitzki..

Evolution of, which debuts a technology theme alongside ballparks and team logos/uniforms.

I will be looking forward to this.
