2019 Topps Archives Baseball Cards

Really love this product.

I like the cards but the collation of the cards is terrible. I have bought two boxes of cards and I am still 35 cards short of a set. I would be better off not paying for packs and buying from other poor saps who bought boxes. I mean seriously I bought two packs that were identical, player for player even n the same order. Come on Topps you can do better!

Just pulled a Blue rimmed baseball coin (#3 – Kolby Allard). Can’t find any information or images of other blue coins in this set. Am I missing something? Is this a documented variation?

Javier Vazquez
Ken Singleton
Moises Alou
Wil Cordero

Cards in the set are nice but come on Topps, your autograph list is beyond bad! Put some value in there! Sorry but this is a fail.

Of all the photos of Al Kaline Topps has on file why didn’t they use one depicting what he actually looked like in ’74-’75, instead of the fresh faced kid pic from the ’50’s ?!? And as for the Expos Gary Carter, why wasn’t he included in the Expos subset instead of being stuck in the 1958 version? Both Randy Johnson (1958) and Tim Raines (1993) have cards in the Expos subset. Carter should have been in either the ’75 or ’93 set when he actually played for the Expos, along with being portrayed in the Expos subset. And of course, Expo Rusty Staub was completely ignored. Get a clue, Topps!

As someone from Montreal, I love that Topps showed some love to the Expos even if they ‘only’ lasted 35 years.

The coins in the retail blasters are an acquired taste

Spending under $40 I’m happy with 2 Vladdy Jr’s. Eloy. Cavan Biggio. Pete. Along with some great old-timers. 4 stars.

An Umpire. OMG that sucks!! Geez Topps what’s up with that. Ran out of ballplayers?

I got in a 5 box break and of the 10 autographs only 1 was a current player. There was an umpire, a manager, the president of the hall of fame, a movie producer, and there rest old Expos. I like the base cards and inserts, but saying two autos per box is a huge oversell considering they’re crap autos. Who wants an auto from an umpire????

nice looking set with exception of the 1993 card design, most of the 1990’s designs are lame. how come there’s no 50th anniversary cards for the 1969 sea pilots? the padres & royals also celebrating there 50th as well.

How do you make a Expos Anniversary set and not include Gary Carter? I just don’t understand how he can be omitted from this set.

The 1993 Topps design seems out of place. Its not terrible like many early 90’s designs but its not great either. they should stick to the 80’s and older for designs.

Nice set, a couple of A’s autographs, but no Tigers. As for the “50th” anniversary of the Expos how did Topps manage to forget HoFer Gary Carter and Rusty Staub, Le Grande Orange, both of whom had their numbers retired by the Expos and Youppi! the teams beloved mascot?!? And Al Kaline finally gets a “regular” 1975 card. Too bad there is no autograph version of Kaline’s card, full sized or mini. I guess he got tired of signing cards in both of the 2019 Heritage sets.

First off, does Topps have something against Stephen Strasburg? They leave him out of the Bowman set, they leave him out of the Topps Chrome set, and they leave him out of this Archives set. I don’t expect a card in this year’s Bowman Chrome either because they left him out of that set last year!

My other observation on Archives is that for the Indians, they always pick the same old timers that no one cares about…EVERY YEAR! Lou Boudreau, Early Wynn, Bob Lemon, Tris Speaker? How about Vizquel, Belle, Thornton, Perry, or even Eckersley?

My complaints about this product are all about the player selections. Otherwise, I’d just love to see more of the card designs from the early to mid 70’s.

Am disappointed over Topps’ decision to include ONE New York Mets card in the ’75 portion of this set. (Stroman is a Met, but he’s listed as a Blue Jay.) And Brody van Wagenen in the Fan Favorites set? Come on. A new Seaver take for ’75 would’ve been great. That was his Cy Young year. Piazza would’ve been cool, too. I was so looking forward to the ’75 guys, but other than Ohtani, Christy Mathewson, and a “regular issue” Kaline, this segment was a bitter pill for me to swallow.

I saw this morning on Dave and Adams the release date has changed to August 14th. Any official word on this date change?

I’m not as big a fan of the 1975 design but with as popular as it is, I’m surprised it took this long to get to it. I also wish they’d stop with the designs that have already been covered with Heritage but oh well. The REAL bummer is this set seems pretty meh in terms of inserts. The Major League cards, the Sandlot, the Ferrell set … those were all nice hooks. The Expos? Not really feeling that one.

50th Anniversary of the Montreal Expos

This one is just stupid in my opinion.

They were only around for 35 years. 1969-2004.

Card makers should only do a anniversary set if the team or player stayed around for that long. and since the expos were not around for 50 years they should not do a set for it

I like the idea of the Archives set, especially they way Topps has handled it from 2012 (the early 2000’s Archives sets were just reprints of old cards). It’s hard to complain about anything because the card designs are what they are.

What I do complain about however is (at times) the player selections, but what is worse is when they do a 1958 Derek Jeter design when it’s already been done in the 2007 Topps Heritage set. A better choice would have been the 1975 design (even though Jeter did appear on a ’75 mini in the 2011 Topps Lineage set). A 1993 design would have also been acceptable because his ’93 card was a Draft Pick version. I love Topps, but I really wish they would give more thought to these kind of details.

I’m giving 4 stars based on the descriptions. I love the Archives product, but the 1993 design was boring. Actually, most of Topps designs in the 1990’s were awful with too much foil. They would’ve been better using the 1989 or skipping to 2000 (which is a nice clean design).

I’ll still be buying a few blasters and a hobby box in August, though!
