Giving collectors a reason to visit their local Walmart, 2019 Bowman Platinum Baseball offers a retail-only set filled with prospects, rookies and MLB stars.

The set is sold in stores and online at Walmart. The premium format that contains two autographs per box is now known as a Monster Box ($79.98). Past editions, such as in 2018, were referred to as Collector Boxes or Mega Boxes. There is also a Blaster for $19.98 with a pack of four exclusive Ice parallels.

There is also a special Hanger format in honor of Topps' National Baseball Card Day promo. Each $12.98 box has two Fat Packs and one bonus pack with exclusive Gallery preview cards.

2019 Bowman Platinum Baseball Base / Inserts

Unlike most Retail-only sets, the 2019 Bowman Platinum Baseball checklist is rather large, similar to a regular Hobby release. This involves a 100-card base set with four extra short prints for top rookies Pete Alonso, Fernando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Eloy Jimenez. These take the place of common cards in the checklist numbering. On top of that, MLB veterans fill out the 10-card Image Variation lineup.

2019 Bowman Platinum Baseball Cards 3

Another 100 cards cover Top Prospects, which many treat as an extension of the base set since the design is the same even though the card numbering is different. Guerrero Jr. is found here, as well.

In addition, standard inserts include Platinum Presence, Prismatic Prodigies, Prolific Power, and Renowned Rookies.

Celebrating National Baseball Card Day at retail, Gallery Preview inserts are exclusive to Hanger packs.

2019 Bowman Platinum Baseball Autographs / Relics

And that takes us to the 2019 Bowman Platinum Baseball autographs. The Top Prospect Autograph parallel features many of the key names. Collectors can also find Platinum Cut Autographs and Refined Autographs.

2019 Bowman Platinum Baseball Cards 42019 Bowman Platinum Baseball Cards 5

As is normally the case, most of the 2019 Bowman Platinum Baseball inserts sets mentioned above have autographed versions to chase. Other signed options consist of Prismatic Prodigies Autographs, Platinum Presence Autographs, Prolific Power Autographs, and Renowned Rookies Autographs.

Finally, memorabilia cards bring us home with Platinum Patches, Platinum Patches Autograph Relics, and Platinum Pieces Autograph Relics.

Hello Trey,

Any updates on the 2020 Bowman Platinum? Shouldn’t it been out already? Has it been pushed back ?

Trey Treutel

Nothing to report. As you know, this is a year unlike any other. Many sets have been impacted. Any new details will be posted when available.

I personally really like this product a lot. I think, especially for younger hobbyist, it offers them something they might not otherwise be able to get their hands on. A 12 year old kid is going to be at Walmart more often than his local card shop. Nevertheless, you do a great job on here and I appreciate your efforts. I have a slight correction for the checklist though. Is there a proper channel to go through, or should I just post it on here?

Keep up the hard work

You can either email me or leave the correction as a comment.

Hey Trey, I think you made a small error in your product checklist because the way you have the odds numbered between the Gold version and the orange version of the top prospect cards, the orange version which is numbered / 25 is easier to pull them the Gold version that is numbered / 50? This cannot be right, I believe you have your ratios incorrect as far as chances of pulling. Just thought I’d mention that and maybe you can correct it. Keep up the good work you do a great job. Jim

Thanks, James. However, these aren’t my ratios. They are the odds printed on the box. I believe it is because Orange is only in the Monster Box whereas Gold is spread across all the formats. So, technically, Orange is easier to pull than Gold from those boxes.

Pulled a few things so far however the hardest thing to tell is the sky blue parallels in the fat retail packs. The regular cards are shiny enough it’s difficult to detect what’s different. I believe I may have Pete Alonso’s sky blue. Anyone else have this trouble??

I’d rate this product higher if I could pull an autograph or hit to get real excited about. The mega boxes are okay if not vastly overpriced. Don’t waste time on the blaster boxes with only 4 cards per pack and inserts/hits are very few in blasters.

I think that for a low-end card set the Bowman Platinum cards are very nice and colorful. I believe personally that the Topps company has made a noticeable Improvement on the quality of the cards as there is not as much Edge chipping as there has been in the past with this specific brand of cards. I give this set 4 stars mainly due to the Improvement of the quality of the card.

Does anyone know about the 2019 Topps Bowman Platinum National Baseball Card Day Special Cards???? I pre-ordered some hanger boxes but I can not find any details about them. They are Retail exclusive.

Trey Treutel

Looks like the new retail aspect of NBCD that Topps mentioned. These apparently each have a bonus pack with the Gallery cards on the checklist that have still not shown up yet.

Every auto card I pulled was sticker. They should not put on the box “ a look for new on card autograph content”. Because most of us are still looking.
From what I can tell, the on card autos are on the higher end, tough to pull cards.
Topps puts less cards in Mega and Blaster boxes, therefore, making it much less value wise. Both Mega boxes I cracked were weak to say the least. Card design same ole same ole…please drop the exclusive licensing MLB..I beg you.

Can you confirm if the 4 rookies are truly short printed? I’ve had an easier time pulling them than I have had pulling their regularly printed counterparts. I have yet to pull a Betts, Allard, or Hudson. I’ve pulled a few Haders but I’ve also pulled 3 Jimenez & 2 Vlad Jr. Just curious how SP they really are.
Thanks

Trey Treutel
Trey Treutel

Per Topps, they are short prints. There has been nothing official to indicate how short-printed they are in comparison to the base cards.

Tommy
Tommy

They look just like last year’s. All shiny and shiny and kinda shiny. Hire some new card designers. Same old same old. Boring!

Andy Mooney

How can you tell which are refractors? Wished they were labeled as such or at least use a different code #

Trey Treutel
Trey Treutel

All parallels are serial numbered except for Ice and Sky Blue. Ice is pretty obvious as there is a clear background design. Sky Blue is more subtle but there is a bluish tint to most of the card.

Broke two Mega boxes and both boxes had the same player inserts. Only received 2 refractors in each box. Very disappointed.

Ryan

Underwhelming like most of what Topps has done this season. They charge more for less cards and the product is no better than previous years. The market is flooded so instead of spending big money on boxes, just go to eBay and buy the SPs or your favorite players.

opened 4 monsters and 2 blasters…10 TOP cards short of a full set. Is it to much to ask for a full set out of that many packs? All 8 autos were stickers. No image variations. Did get all 4 SP RC’s. Certainly not worth the $$ spent, therefore the 3 stars.

Love this product, but it’s hard to get your hands on a monster box. I’m getting really sick and tired of people grabbing them all up and then reselling them for twice the price on eBay.

I do have one question about the parallels…. Isn’t there a sky Blue refractor that comes with every fat pack? I didn’t see it listed. I just want confirmation that it’s a thing and i’m just not seeing different colors…lol

PGH247
PGH247

Sorry I cant stand variation rookie cards. Just make them a part of the regular set or don’t make them at all. Its fine if they want to make all the rookies SP cards but at least make them regular cards not variations.

Broke a couple of boxes and pulled a SP
Guerrero jr. in one and an Alonso in the other.
Stock is thin as Ron pointed out but I had no
damage to any of my cards.

Dan
Dan

I love this product. cards are really cool.

Ron
Ron

Broke one box today and both autos were stickers, so at least with my box NOT ON card autographs. Paper stock is really thin so damaged cards is certainly possible. Not overly impressed. Will not be buying any more.

Trey Treutel
Trey Treutel

Most of the autographs are stickers, which is the norm for Bowman Platinum. This year does have some hard-signed options. These were the cards revealed by Topps early on. The new on-card autographs are also noted on the box.

Mike
Mike

Trey, any word if the autos on card or stickers?

The live card images from Topps are shown here and look to be on-card. No specifics beyond that for now.
