User Rating:

The caffeine-fueled NHL promo set lives on for another season with 2019-20 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey. The annual event across Canadian Tim Hortons locations offers a large assortment of exclusive UD cards.

Unfortunately, the trend of resellers getting access to the cards before the product is even announced also continues.

As was the case for 2018-19, the three-card packs are sold for $1.00 (CDN) apiece with a beverage, or $1.99 per pack as a standalone purchase. The promotion officially starts on September 23 and goes until November 6, or as supplies last.

2019-20 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey Set Details

Although the 2019-20 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey checklist doesn't stray far from previous Collector's Series releases, collectors can count on a few new options as well as the first Tim Hortons cards for 2018-19 and 2019-20 rookies, plus those on different teams. There is also the standard bilingual aspect to the cards that feature both English and French text.

2019-20 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey Cards 1

The base set totals 120 cards and there is a custom binder album available for sale, as well. Debuting in 2019-20 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey, collectors can track down new Red parallels for select players. These versions add rounded, die-cut edges.

In addition to the base set, the Upper Deck NHL line boasts multiple inserts with a variety of card technologies. Many of these are carried over from last year. The ticket-styled Game Day Action cards are back with many stars of the game. Normally a key choice, Clear Cut Phenoms uses acetate to showcase young NHL stars, while Gold Etchings takes an ornate foil look at top players

The 3D inserts are also a yearly favorite, and Franchise Duos applies a lenticular effect to notable team pairings.

Key Season Events is a new set highlighting themed battles like the All-Star Game, Global Series and Winter Series. Highly Decorated also appears for the first time in '19-20.

And, as usual, the rarest cards include NHL Jersey Relics and a few different Autographs, as well.

There is also an online component via Collect to Win.

Release Date: September 23, 2019

Hi all,
This is the first year that Tim Hortons had investable rookies in the base set (and Makar in the red insert set) . Makar and Hughes base cards are already sought after. The other 2 rookies will be soon too. This is an investment worthy set if you like to collect and also invest.

Just buy a box at Tim’s when they are available. The collation is pretty good. This year I got the base set, all of the easy inserts except 5 red die cut, I got half the clear cuts and 5 of the 3D. I got a jersey card for MA Fleury too. I’ll wait half a year or so to get the ones I need. The other thing I don’t think Nick mentioned is Upper Deck doesn’t randomize the packs, so once someone has opened 3 or 4 packs in a box to figure out the sequence, they can pick out all the packs with the most common inserts.

Been collecting for 5 years, and watching the values go up on both Beckett and Canadian Hockey Cards.com. This year in a small town in BC i pulled a Connor McDavid Jersey Relic. After following the rules upper deck has shipped my product. This card will have tremendous value in 20-30 years, and the cards collected over the years will only add to that.

Good insight Nick and right on the mark.
I experienced what you have described and do not buy the cards anymore. I will try your suggestion of waiting till Christmas to get the master set. I am a bit old school and like the nostalgia feeling of collecting. thx for sharing

The best set of Tim Hortons so far. The Franchise Duos and Clearcuts are beautiful!

Collecting this relatively simple set with a great variety of inserts is so much fun. I read nick’s comments and had to counter. I find his jaundiced view both sad and funny. Anyone try opening and resealing one of these packs this year – good luck. Good idea to put a seal on the box but the vast majority of eBay sellers are honest. I’ve bought thousands of cards with no issue. Im about to bid on a box right now!

I look forward to this release every year now … what I don’t like is that there seems to be a lot of back door deals going on with Tims and UD because there are Ebay listings well before the actual date of Tim Horton’s official release through their stores … Shadiness in this collecting world is brutal … Just look at the guys being caught trimming vintage and current cards for a huge profit …

There is no instructions there is no Blank Space to put in your code there is no offered help there is no rules and regulations there is no explaining anything about this to anybody I can see this will be the first and last pack I bought

This page is just for the physical cards in the store. You would need to visit the official Tim Hortons Collect to Win page for the online program, which is also noted in the guide above – https://c2w.timhortons.com/en.

Fantastic set

I don’t buy or collect Tim Hortons cards, there are enough better quality & nicer issues to collect so why waste my time with it is how I feel.
I do chuckle & question why are you folks upset that some already have it in hand and listed ? Because you don’t have ??
Seriously, just don’t buy it from them and you have nothing to complain about. Let the eager beavers do the purchasing, buy your packs at the store with coffee, then wait 2 months to fill your set and you can pick up that stuff for half the price. IMHO
And scope out your stores, there are searchers of this product and the boxes are not sealed from the factory so if you don’t get a decent insert every once in awhile, buy elsewhere.
The folks at UD are too important & busy to bother putting a security sticker on the boxes at the factory, this way the humble folks who buy their product can get ripped off steadily. Sealed boxes is the only way to go for fairness to all.

Bobby, I sent a message to eBay with all the usernames of the sellers that already sell them. They told me that they may limit or even suspend accounts but nothing has been made so far… they just don’t care…….

Bobby
Bobby

Your right Nick…There are a handful of scammers out there ..who ruin for the true collector
There’s somebody on Ebay who is selling cards even before the release date…that person should be outed & banned from Ebay & Card shows

You should avoid buying packs, and here is the full truth reasons. Please don’t flame me im just providing use full info that both Upper Deck and Tim Hortons don’t care about these issues. 1) packs can be opened and resealed
2) Can weigh the packs for the Franchise Force -Triple Exposure inserts they weigh more then rest of cards.
3) The middle card in the pack which is the inserts you can slide the top card and feel the middle card in the pack such as UD logo on some inserts its on the top left on others its on the top right, or print indentations such as game day action inserts or platinum or Clear cuts.
Now this year those Red Die-Cut Parallel inserts since they are slightly rounded you will be able to tell very simply that the middle card is Red Die-Cut.
You can even tell for those WINNER CARDS by feeling the pack from top to bottom once you get to the middle of the pack if you feel an bump/indentation that pack has a winner card reason the scratch portion is slightly thick so it does make a slight bump on the pack.
Upper Deck could very easily attached UD Logo Decal on the 100 pack box as it does to all its other hobby boxes to keep the boxes sealed in some way.
Cause when you see 100 pack box offered for sale for $250.00 and $10.00 for shipping on Ebay you have to rethink, if the box was purchased at $1.00 per pack then the seller is making some money after Ebay/PayPal fees, If they bought the packs at $1.99 though how could they be selling it for $250.00 cause after Ebay/PayPal fees they are loosing money and Canada post sure as hell charges more then $10.00 to mail a 100 packs box.

The past 4 years has proven if you can wait until XMAS you can buy the Entire Master Set with Album for under $300.00 rather then paying $675.00 for 3 boxes which in fact this year to collect all 18 Franchise Force Inserts you will have to go through 5 boxes at a hefty cost.

Simply stated this upcoming set seems as though it will appear great and well worth while binding in it’s book. Am looking forward to the start of the hockey season and the release date for these fine cards. Well executed, well done, well priced!.
