2018 Topps New Era Baseball Cards
Product Details
Year three of the MLB hat promo seemed to float under the radar a bit more than past editions, but 2018 Topps New Era Baseball cards add another chapter to the exclusive set.
Issued at select MLB stadium stores as a purchase incentive for buying New Era caps and Topps products, the cards feature the 2018 Topps flagship design. According to Topps, the eight-card packs are limited to team stores for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals.
Although many collectors are listing them for sale online as variations, they have a numbering system that is unique to the set rather than matching the Series 1 or Series 2 checklist.
There is actually almost nothing else that indicates they are part of this promo other than the different player photos.
However, those who pay attention to the CODE#CMP on the back of the card are in luck as these end in #1604.
With fresh images and very limited availability, they will be much tougher to find, especially once the packs dry up.
In addition to the small base set, the 2018 Topps New Era Baseball checklist offers 1983 Topps Baseball 35th Anniversary inserts for retired players. The numbering is again unique to this set.
Finally, the only chase to speak of is the New Era Performers Relic set featuring player-worn memorabilia cards at 1:67 packs. These are numbered to 99 copies with Team Logo parallels limited to just five. Based on the odds for these rare cards, it appears that the overall production has decreased considerably.
Earlier Topps New Era sets were released in 2017 and 2016.
