User Rating:

Burning brightly for a new MLB season, 2018 Topps Fire Baseball supplies more flame-heavy designs from Tyson Beck.

Just like in 2017, the fiery set is exclusive to Target locations. Also matching 2017, multiple formats each offer something unique. That includes the Collector box that acts like a Hobby release, promising one autograph and one additional hit per box for $69.99. These boxes are the only place to find the one-of-one Inferno parallels. In addition, Value Box Blasters with exclusive Gold Minted parallels retail for $19.99, and Fat Packs with exclusive Blue Chip parallels run $5.99 apiece.

2018 Topps Fire Baseball Base / Inserts

With a strong selection of parallels, the 200-card base set imagines a world where the only thing left is smoldering designs (and major league players).

2018 Topps Fire Baseball Cards 2

Parallels stretch the look even more via Flame, Orange (#/299), Green (#/199), Purple (#/99), and Magenta (#/25). Onyx (1 per case) and Inferno (1/1) versions are only in Collector boxes. There are also the exclusive Blue Chip (Fat Packs) and Gold Minted (Blaster) options.

In addition, the 2018 Topps Fire Baseball checklist is filled with dynamic insert themes like Cannons, Flamethrowers, Fired UpHot Starts, Power Producers and Speed Demons.

2018 Topps Fire Baseball Cards 3

2018 Topps Fire Baseball Autographs / Relics

Adding a little more fuel to 2018 Topps Fire Baseball, possible hits include the Fire Autograph and Fire Relic lines in base editions as well as Green (#/75), Purple (#/50), and Magenta (#/25) and Collector-only Inferno (1/1) parallels.

2018 Topps Fire Baseball Cards 4

Among the more limited choices are Dual Autograph, Triple Autograph and Autographed Relic cards.

I think this set depends on baseball card taste/preference. I personally love this set. It’s a nice change of pace from the norm. I understand why some people think it’s too busy. I just like the artistic-ness of it. And I love the inclusion of older players. I think the parallels are very cool but as mentioned above, can be hard to distinguish. Also love the gold parallels exclusive to blaster boxes. Only auto I’ve ever gotten in a blaster box but that was just luck of the draw. I, too, wish the product was cheaper (who wouldn’t!) but when you think of it, you’re buying essentially a hobby box/pack. So that’s not so bad.

To address some of the concerns above:

Topps Fire 2017 did not have two guaranteed autographs. So the decline in guaranteed autos is not true.

As far as the duplicates concern, understand it is a base set of only 200. Duplication is always an issue with small base sets.

With the brick and mortar complaint….I mean…. Hobby stores have enough exclusives as it is. Not to mention that every set that is both hobby and retail (75% or more of all sets!) carries far better packs in hobby always. And not every person has easy access to a hobby shop anyway. This day in age they are more likely to have a Target or WalMart.

Didn’t know what these were, bought a pack. Also didn’t realize these were Target exclusive. Anyhow, they really reminded me of the old Fleer Metal series. The only thing I don’t necessarily like is that with all the colors and design elements I’m not sure the parallels that aren’t #’d really stand out. I’m fairly sure my Cannon insert is a blue parallel, I just can’t be 100% positive :-P Anyone else?

I bought 2 boxes and was pleasantly surprised to find 1 decent autograph in each. Also got a green Jersey card # to 99. 1 of my autographs was # to 50! Very nice cards. Out of both boxes I got about 10 reds, about 4 greens, 3 golde, several purple ones. And orange. All in all I’m fairly certain i did good $ wise. My autos should be worth around $150 together and the rest is good to. Highly recommend the boxes from Target.

Love the base and parallels. A bit pricey for sticker autos…but solid set.

Liked this set last year and think it looks good again this year. I am happy their is a good retail exclusive out there.

These are Topps Bunt cards but with a little thicker and double the price. Bring Back Bunt Put Out the FIRE.

Bought one hobby box and one blaster box at two different stores and had 100% duplication of base cards. Feels like a scam, so will wait six months and complete the base set on the second hand market, especially given the decrease in autographs from last year.

Topps Target only? What about the brick & mortar stores who are your main source of product?

Not sure what to think of this product. One thing for sure, it is not as good as last year. The one main problem is the price stayed the same, but topps took an auto hit away and now its just a 1 auto and a lousy jersey card hit box. I think this stinks and whoever at topps who came up with the brilliant idea of doing this should be fired. I will definetly will be avoiding this product and you all should follow suit and make topps suffer in sales from trying to exploit the little man.

Bought 2 boxes today. Terrible relics, and autos. Tired of pulling same guys out of Topps products. Matt Olson, Tyler Wade, $3 patch card of generic Amed Rosario. Didn’t finish base set in 2 boxes, way too many inserts. This will cost a ton to finish a master set. Last year, finished base, flame, 95% Gold mint, 60 Blue mint, won’t go down that trap again. If you don’t hit, you lose a ton of money!

I agree the design will get old as it is very loud but after the disaster if a product Chrome, I will take this all day long. You get hits out of these more often and it being a Target exclusive means it is priced appropriately for collectors

Not a big fan of artistic card products as they quickly become dated as time moves on. I always preferred the tried and true standard looking cards or full bleed photography cards. The first few years of Stadium Club releases in the early 90’s are still great looking cards.

I like this release. It isn’t the greatest thing released by Topps, but the artistic adventure of it is really cool.

Going by the listed odds for inserts a buyer would only be guaranteed the Auto & 1 other Hit & 6 Inserts from the 120 Card(20 Packs/6 Cards per Pack) Hobby Box.

That’s not very many inserts. The Parallels would fall at 7 per box as well with the Flame(1:4), Orange(1:13), & Green(1:19) so seems 7 is the magic number here for Parallels so with the added Parallels the insert odds aren’t as bad. LOL!

I would have expected Topps to have a little better odds of pulling inserts with Topps Fire though because of the price & the popularity of the 2017 Fire cards which I personally really liked. Oh well!

I do not like Topps fire each card looks too busy, too much color like someone used a paint brush dropping paint from a roof.
