2018 Panini Diamond Kings Baseball Cards

This product is often hit and miss, but 2018 was a Diamond King in the rough. The design was classy and the checklist was excellent. The card stock has a better feel to it than in recent years. Although they do not have the MLB license, the do have the players association license. They often use natural action and swinging stances to hide logos rather than just airbrushing. The bottom line is that this a product with Shohei Ohtani rookie cards (including autos) that you can still find for under 200 bucks at the time of this review. He is the real deal and is already cemented into MLB history. The risk VS reward is better here than in any topps product you can get with Shohei rookies in it.

Just got a box from Cards Infinity for only $54. Got a McMahon green framed RC #’d /5, a Tyler Mahle dual patch gold auto #’d /25, a press proof of Benintendi #’d 25/25, and an Andujar dual jersey #’d /49. Crazy value to be found in these boxes. Ditch the retail and go hobby if you can.

Good retail set Not a lot of hits. If you squint your eyes no logo almost looks like throwback jerseys good vintage players too many obtains nice sepia variations. 3&3/4 stars

I have opened boxes of cards the last couple of years I like these cards .im not a dealer .that think that is the only card you can sell. One guy says it’s illegal.does the card have to have the commissioners name on it to make it cool . Topps are sick you got to have a code to know if it’s a error card .get real 10.00 a blaster box and pull out auto graphs.you can do it with topps for a 100.00 moronic

The artistry and quality of cardboard are excellent. I put the artistry up there with Topps’ Living Set. I appreciate seeing former stars in the set.

You will fair just as well buying a $20 retail box instead of the hobby box, they are virtually the same with the only separation being the 2 auto/patch “on average”. I’ve opened a number of these and will say that more times then not, you will only get 1 patch card (not numbered). Only about 1 in 5 boxes will you ever get a numbered card and the odds of getting an auto are probably worse. If you just enjoy the artwork of these cards and don’t care about numbered or autos, do yourself a favor and go retail.

Too many variations. More specifically, too many tiers of variations. They were doing so good keeping it somewhat consistent, and modestly attainable for set builders. We don’t need all the convoluted tiers of variations at this price point. I for one am going to be buying less of this product this year only because I’m staying away from variation parallels altogether, whereas in years past the variations completed my set build. More isn’t always better than less. Much can be said for continuity and tradition.

My biggest issue is that your supposed to get 2 SP and the majority of the hobby boxes have one, and its usually not on the memorablia card or the auto. Another case opened and less then half the boxes contained 2 SP

Detroit fans get overlooked again. I wanted cards of the new players. They still have a JD Maritinez Tiger card. He was traded last year. Add to it the absence of autos/jersey for Tigers, I have no interest in this set. I can’t even buy I break. Nothing I want. New players like Martin, Cadelario, Hicks,Reyes, Goodrum, Boyd, Jones all missing I am sure some people like the annual ty cobb reprint (no thank you).

I like the product but the only thing is there’s too many otanes and it seems like they just flood the market with them which means hes not gonna be worth what he was worth before he even got on the field

Nice design on some of these cards; plus there are a few old-time players that Topps won’t recognize. Agree, though, the lack of MLB logos makes these cards kinda hit and miss. Doesn’t Topps’ exclusive deal w/ MLB run out in a year or two? It’d be nice if Panini/Donruss could compete openly and give Topps a run for the money. The same goes for football where Panini’s NFL deal is blocking Topps. No more exclusives! There’s room for Topps and Panini/Score/Dunruss (even Upper Deck).

Awesome product for the price!! Any info on the private signings cards??? I know there are at least 4 variations of Shohei Ohtani autos!?!? But nothing is listed in this checklist….

Not having a MLB license hurts Panini products. The design is fine but not having team logos on the uniforms just sticks out like a sore thumb.

There should be a Shohei Ohtani autograph in the DK Signatures section as I just saw that one was put up on eBay (FOTL Purple /20)

Tigers cards are missing ?? I mean Base cards of COBB & CRAWFORD . REALLY Not a single current OR ALIVE cards of them !! (BASE) I believe their is 1 Cabrera – A gallery of stars checklist card ( NOT EVEN A BASE CARD )

I know people don’t like Panini and that’s fine. However, Diamond Kings has consistently been a great, good-looking set to collect. Given the state of the hobby where even the products that used to be for set collectors have hobby boxes selling for more than $100, this is a very nice set to collect at a good price.

This is a great product every year. I love the look of the cards and the hit checklist is always incredible. From top prospects to legends you can get everything in Diamond Kings. If the card features a player I collect I could care less about the logos. At $75 a box you get a lot more value here than you do with some other products.

Looking forward to seeing this creative product.

not licensed = do not buy. unlicensed cards used to be worthless. I wont buy this crap

Another big zero from the worst card designers on the planet. Simplstic and ugly, ugly, ugly. A second grader could have done better. More Panini garbage, and sticker autographs galore! Whee! Not worth the paper it’s printed on. But then again, if you love wasting money on inferior cards, this is definitely your line.
