2014 Topps Five Star Baseball Hot List
Perhaps a little lost in the onslaught of products released during November and December, 2014 Topps Five Star Baseball returns with all the quality that collectors have come to expect. A higher price tag keeps many from breaking boxes, but singles are a popular route and many of the top cards are seeing considerable interest.
Topps Five Star makes its living with a premium look, good checklist of former and current stars, and on-card autographs. With a price tag of about $400 for six cards, this high-end product is not for everyone. However, with the many autographed cards and premium relics available, there are some very rare and valuable hits to be pulled, especially bat knobs and bat plates. Also, Golden Graphs and Silver Signings feature some big names and a dynamic look thanks to the use of gold and silver ink.
Higher print runs for some of the base autographs and a checklist that features a lot of names that have been seen in recent products has softened interest this year, but Five Star also added a new wrinkle to the 2014 edition. Several NFL stars that were once drafted by MLB teams are included in the autograph checklist. John Elway, Tom Brady and Dan Marino are known for their gridiron success but are present in the main autograph set in 2014 Topps Five Star Baseball. Also, Topps Five Star has continued the Major League theme in a limited fashion by including a one-of-one letter patch for Ricky Vaughn.
