2014 Topps Dynasty Baseball Hot List

2014 Topps Dynasty Baseball Hot List

2014 Topps Dynasty Baseball isn't for everyone. Pricing alone dictates this with single-card boxes running in the $300 range on release day. In the process, it set a new high mark for Topps Baseball products as far as initial box prices go. But even if unopened product is out of reach, there are singles to look at. And they're all very nice.

The major selling point of the product is that every live card is an autographed patch card numbered to 10 or less. That doesn't mean there are less than a dozen total cards for each player. There are more than that. Most players appear to have multiple variations with different photos. But even if that means there are around 100 total cards for most players in the set, in the grand scheme of things, that's still not a lot.

While there are a lot of Hall of Famers and future Cooperstown inductees on the checklist, there are some younger players that don't reach the same stature. Michael Wacha, Nick Castellanos and Taijuan Walker might be solid players but nobody is going to compare them to the hobby stature Ken Griffey Jr, Mike Trout or Nolan Ryan command. However, what Topps has done with some of these lesser stars is pair them with redemptions for some of the bigger players in the set like Willie Mays and Greg Maddux.

On top of the autographed patch cards are some cut signatures from the likes of Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Thurman Munson and Ty Cobb. On the opposite end are Earl Weaver, Ron Santo and Bob Feller.

is there a total list of how many variations are of each player from 2014? For example, Trout?

So how many photo variations (all separately numbered to 10) are out there? Kind of disingenuous and misleading to tout “serial numbered to 10 or less” to sell these cards, and then release multiple “out of 10” variations in the product. Were these multiple variations disclosed in advance?

For example, there are two Robin Yount patch auto cards currently on eBay, both numbered “4/10”, with only a minor background photo variation apparently distinguishing them.

Brian M. » There appears to be a different number of versions depending on the player. Topps has yet to release a full list.
