2012 Topps Series 2 Baseball Cards

Ever since pulling an expired Nolan Ryan Real One Autograph Redemption I avoid older Topps products like the plague. But I couldn’t pass up a great deal on a hobby box of these Series 2. In that box were numerous cards missing foil. Either their name, team, or both seemed to have been left of well over a dozen cards. The best of them was an Ichiro SP. Was this a common issue for this run?

Rating a five, just to pull the average user rating up. There were three junk user reviews.

One of the previous users had stated, three years ago, that he has been in the hobby for 30 years, and feels as though he has thrown away $500 on several hobby boxes.

Well, all I can say, is that experienced baseball collectors usually take a peak at chances of pulling certain types of cards that are printed directly on the box before you purchase it. There are other ways of finding the odds as well. And most importantly, as any baseball junkie should know, is one basic rule of gambling:

No matter how high your odds are, you ALWAYS have a chance at missing 2, 3, 5, 10…hell, hundreds of times in a row. You can;t blame Topps for your misfortune any more than you can blame the lottery, or a casino. Ultimately, you are responsible for every penny you spend, unless you are being purposefully deceived. In this case, Topps is not deceiving anyone.

For the benefit of future readers, I have said this before in other reviews on this website, and some of the cardboardconnection staff have also said this several times throughout the site:

If you are going to be aggrieved by a missed box or a pack, then the product is too expensive for you. This is a HOBBY. Not a BUSINESS, except for Topps itself, or unless you run a hobby shop. And in case of the latter, most hobby shop owners still treat it as a hobby, as they themselves, tend to be collectors as well.

And finally, my advice:

Before you purchase anything whatsoever, always keep the worst-case scenario at the fore-front of your mind, especially when looking at the price. If the box and/or pack you are about to purchase is a dud, will you be angry, and/or upset? Is the price you paid going to aggravate you? If so, do not purchase it! It’s too expensive! And it’s meant to be FUN and EXCITING. Having said that, you always want to think you just purchased a dud if you do decide you can afford it. When you get it home and open it, and if you happen across a hit or several hits, you will be pleasantly surprised, and will be that much more fun and exciting.

NEVER purchase unopened products with riches in your head. It’s about as useless as purchasing a bunch of lottery tickets with full expectations of making millions. Not going to happen. Unless you are a retailer, and you have a deal directly with the manufacturer as a certified dealer. But as a dealer, you will be selling the unopened product at retail price, so you can earn a profit for your business. That’s how retail works.

getting back to collecting from long time away ,the players of today are just so enjoyable to watch they actually get dirt on their uniforms ,any how picked up case of 2012 series#2 Topps baseball in 2 boxes pull couple relics and 1 wood parallel so happy so far .But also have pulled Jonathan Lucroy #395 and Rod Barajas #395 hoping you have some in site into what I might have here thanks hope you can help me Don

I opened a retail jumbo box which has 18 packs and pulled no auto and no jersey but the odds are very long anyways but I did pull the cespedes sparkle the darvish sparkle and the darvish short print so I can not complain.

I wonder what are the odds of pulling a short print? 1 per retail jumbo box?

OR did I get real lucky?

In one Jumbo box, I opened 5 packs that were identical with the exception of the 2-3 insert cards. I haven’t taken inventory yet to see how close to a set of Series II that I have. Kind of afraid to. Hoping another box of the stuff won’t be the same way and this was just an outlier.

The trying to open 30 Team Coins, 30 Player Coins and 30 Retired Player Coins is impossible, have entered so many codes it just isn’t worth the time.

to many junk inserts! i have purchased topps products since 92-93. especially the chrome version beginning in 96-97 (kobe)!!!! and i have put the topps product above all,but this one is awful! i have purchased 5 series 2 boxes (120 packs) 2 blaster boxes (20 packs) i have pulled less than 50 rookies all together and they are practically worthless,and a ton of junk inserts that are also worthless! i mean come on 1400 cards and not one decent rc, much less insert

i have invested in this product hundreds of dollars. 5- series 2 boxes( 120 packs )2 blaster boxes( 20 packs) and countless packs from dealers and wal-mart in search of at least one decent rookie card,or memorabelia card and all i have pulled is 36 low end rookies and tons of inserts that have no actual value.i buy and sell cards everyday and ive never purchased a product with as little chance of return than this one!i have been collecting for well over 30 years, and too me this product is a total waste of money! if i sound a little upset i am.i buy other topps products that i love but too me this is like stealing unless youre a lot more fortunate than i have been.i think topps chrome is greatest product ever been produced!!!

totally hot for me it david wright rare stuff and Ken Griffey Jr. Stuff rare only 1/1 the wood base parallels, coins, rings, patch,auto,and relic auto, only no common stuff

This is a great product but my
personal opion is that there is way
to many insert sets. the average collector couldn’t possiblly hope to
collect a complete set of all of these.
