Good: I like that the cards are not over designed like other Olympic sets from the past. The shots of the athletes are very crisp and clear. I also like how they stand out against the picture of the American flag in the background. The cards are on solid card stock so they can hold up to a lot of handling. Each box of 2012 Topps U.S. Olympic Team and Olympic Hopefuls comes with three guaranteed hits. Every other box has an additional autograph in it. You can complete the 100-card base set in one box and have minimal doubles. The patch cards look amazing. And the best thing--on-card autographs (for the Champions autographs, at least).
Bad: When it comes to the parallels, I didn't mind the Bronze, Silver and Gold base versions. However, it seems a bit much for some of the inserts.
The Bottom Line:It is sets like this that make through-the-mail autograph collectors like myself smile. The card stock is perfect for autographs and they can stand up to the postal system. The parallels make a good chase for those looking to complete athlete rainbows. If you have any interest in the U.S. Olympic team, then this product is ideal. It is well worth the $75 average price per box.

The whole set is done very well. All the cards are printed on a durable white stock. The base cards have nice colorful photos of the athletes and they are not over or under decorated. I like how the Bronze, Silver, and Gold parallels are not flooded with there color. Regular autographs use stickers. They each have four parallels (the three above plus Rainbow Gold).
All of the basic insert sets (Games of the XXVIII Olympiad, Opening Ceremony, and 2012 Olympic Venues) have beautiful photos. I'm not usually one for manufactured patch cards, but I must say I like the Olympic Team Patch I pulled.
The best part of the set, the Champion Autographs. Not only do they have a great design, they have on-card autographs. I'm always a fan of pulling a card that was actually held by the person who signed it.

The base set is comprised of 100 cards. For those who follow the Olympics, this box is loaded with past American stars and future gold medal winners. Some collectors will only recognize a few names in the base set, such as Michael Phelps, Misty May-Treanor, Candace Parker, and Hope Solo. However, Topps also included many unsung heroes who helped the United States win medals in the past. They finally get recognized in this set. Four insert sets capture all the events, festivities, and locations of the Olympics: Games of the XXX Olympiads, London 2012 Olympic Games Venues, Heritage of the Olympic Games, and Opening Ceremonies. The autograph checklist is highlighted by Phelps, Solo, Shawn Johnson, Amanda Beard, Bruce Jenner, Carl Lewis, Mark Spitz, and cut signatures from late legends like Joe Frazier.
Value: 4.0/5.0
Like a lot of products, much of the value depends on the cards you pull. This product is loaded with a variety of hits. You are guaranteed at least one autograph, one relic, and one commemorative relic per hobby box. Topps announced that every other box includes an additional autograph. The USA Flag Patches, Stamps, and Medals look amazing in person. If you pull one of the main autographs, you will more than make up for the cost of this box. Even many of the lesser stars are doing well because they don't have any other cards.
The Fun Factor: 5.0/5.0
This product is extremely fun to open. Normally it takes me about five minutes to bust through a box of cards. This took me about an hour because I sat there reading the card backs. This can also be a great educational tool for young collectors to read up on all the athletes who have represented the United States in the Olympics. Topps has released an amazing product that recognizes these athletes and their accomplishments. With its abundance of parallels, amazing-looking hits, and historical value, collectors can't go wrong with 2012 Topps U.S. Olympic Team and Olympic Hopefuls.
