Following in the lines of Panini's 2011 Black Friday and 2012 Father's Day promotional sets, the card maker has produced another mini set for the 2012 National in Baltimore. Distributed as part of a massive wrapper redemption, the 2012 Panini National Sports Collectors Convention set mixes several sports.
The 2012 Panini National Sports Collectors Convention base set has 40 cards that are divided into three subsets: 15 veterans, five Legends and 20 Rookies (numbered to 499). Among the rookies are the first trading cards from several of the 2012 NBA draft picks. Base cards also have Cracked Ice parallels (numbered to 25 or less) and random autographs (numbered to 5 or less).
A common thread throughout show-specific Panini sets are Team Colors inserts that highlight players from where the event takes place. The 2012 Panini National Sports Collectors Convention honors both Baltimore and Washington with players like Stephen Strasburg, Robert Griffin III and Cal Ripken Jr.
The 2012 Panini National Sports Collectors Convention set also has several other inserts and memorabilia cards. Among them are Draft Day Materials and Rookie of the Year Materials. Three Panini staff also have their own autographed memorabilia cards.
