2012 Panini Crown Royale Football Cards

I recognize that I’m late to the Crown review party, but I have great respect for the site, Ryan, and I will always visit the site to research a prospective purchase.

That said, the ’12 Crown Royale has been one of my favorite breaks over the past 2 years. I would’ve given the product a full contingent of stars were it not for the poorly executed parallels. I do NOT care for the curious and kind of random-looking inserts. These should have been numbered, or not quite so arbitrary. I would go as far as to say that removing the parallels and replacing them with base cards would improve the product.

That small but worthwhile caveat aside… Crown Royale’s strength is its unique, elegant design. Panini has seamlessly integrated auto, patch and die-cut elements into one really well-executed auto-mem’ rookie card. The “Legendary Silhouette Signatures,” both standard and prime, feature some interesting and under-represented names within the hobby, such as Vinny Testaverde, Curtis Martin, Alan Page & Raghib Ismail.
My box yielded a phat’ Andrew Luck 2/C auto patch RC, a Bobby Mitchell Legendary Silhouette Signatures prime patch auto, a Chris Polk auto rc, and a scattering of the aforementioned inserts.

Crown Royale, because of its unique design, is a niche product; you either love it or fail to see the appeal. For my collecting dollars, however, CR encompasses an abundant (but not Playoff Contender deep) rookie checklist and a fine stable of retired legends. The patches are large and eye-catching while the auto production runs sufficiently limited.

All in all, a very enjoyable break with room for the auto-patch RCs to enjoy significant dollar-value growth

Crown just wasn’t what it used to be from a hobby standpoint. too many redemptions not enough bang for the buck. i mean its sad that i pull a rg3 rookie royalty jersey and there going from 7 to 9 bucks on ebay when that was probably my best hit and i payed like 90 for the box. They are starting to make waaaaaaaaaaaay too many products out there for anything to actually be worth something. I’ve spent alot on this hobby throughout the years and Ebay just kind of ruins it for me. Wealthy collectors and over production kind of takes the fun out the hobby

Personally, I’ve never liked cards that were busy. It takes away from the players as the main theme! That being said, I was excited to get a couple of packs, I’m the type of collector that enjoys looking at a collection that has variety in it. Boy! These cards really stand out, I love the base die cuts, the insert variations, and I actually got a redemption card, my first one! Robert Turbin relic, auto. Lucky me, my wife pulled a RGIII jumbo relic. She has a knack of picking the hot packs! If variety is what you’re looking for, these cards will not disappoint you. At the very least, it has changed my mind on busy artwork, especially when it’s done in good taste. Also note that the secondary market value on these cards are substantial!

Makes sense, I guess I’ll just jump in and buy some different ones and see what I like. Any suggestions on where to get some good deals, maybe even bulk or wholesale?

Damn! I got a retail box online thinking I was getting an amazing deal. Oh well, guess I learned my lesson. I’m just getting back into cards after YEARS off, what would you recommend? Besides the fake Crown Royale box, I got a box of 2012 Rookies and Stars and got a Dont’a Hightower signed card and a Russel Wilson red crusade Auto (#004/199) card (that one I’m very happy about). Thinking about staying with the R&S. Thoughts??

How can I tell if I’m buying a retail Crown Royale box?

I bought a pack and scored the 2012 Crown Royale Panini’s Choice Autographs Blue #9 Adrian Peterson. Does anyone know what I can get for it? It is 1/1…

I’m lucky to have a few cardshops nearby otherwise i’d be all the more more reluctant to purchase retail boxes from Target-Wall-mart etc. It’s unfortunate and stupid that the retail card game has changed by making two different versions of the same card,I’ve seen it with Topps prime and then Strata,is this the future for collecting all of the sudden?.Why WHY WHY are they doing this?,its making it agitating for card collectors who are trying to complete sets. The retail Crown Royal Box is at the top of the list of what’s wrong with this problem. The cards are completely different from the hobby version and probably worth a whole lot less,it’s a money grab for Panini and that’s just it Crown Royal Retail=Garbage. It was once fun to be out shopping and pick up a retail box of topps platinum for under 20 bucks and get maybe one hit a few r/c’s and then if intrigued maybe go out and buy a hobby box to build the set,you used to be able to this with retail before these drastic changes,it needs to stop.In my opinion crown royal the high-end product that it is,shouldn’t even be available as a blaster/retail box it’s like legal bootlegging, considering a Retail pack is $3.09 and a Hobby pack is between $28-$30!.That being said i’ll probably end up purchasing a hobby box an then come back here and give a whole other review lol

Legends redemption (decent, considering I’m Canadian and thats where he started( Argonauts )

i guess if you buy enough boxes you might get a HOF silouette with a nice patch…other than that its not worth the investment

Gunnar, you opened a box of RETAIL Crown Royale. Never buy Panini retail products, they’re crap. The hobby boxes still have all die cuts for base, inserts, etc.

So did I miss something? I recieved a box for Christmas (8 packs/10cardsperpack) and the die cuts are now parallels? (i did pull a bronze Tom Brady) And the Rookie Roylaty I pulled is not numbered. Needless to say I was kinda bummed about a regular base card. The Field Force, Regime, Majestic Motion and Pivotal Players inserts I could have done without. Meh, I guess.

My favorite product year in and year out. The Rookie Silhouettes helped me give this a 5 star rating. The best looking rookie cards on the market! A die cut base set. To me a product starts with its base cards, and if you do a great job there the overall product to me is a hit.
