2012 Panini Black Football Cards

The design fits the colors of the card and the ink beautifully. Very nice size patches in the card top of a product well made.

My wife and I went to visit our local card shop, we normally visit “Collectors Palace” here in Streetsboro, Ohio at a minimum of once a week. We both decided to purchase one of two hobby boxes that were prominently displayed. Mike, who is the owner at the shop asked if we could break open the box at the store, he has yet to see a break of Panini Black. My wife not only chooses the box to break, I made sure she had the honor of opening the single pack! To our surprise the biggest hit was a Andrew Luck auto & relic card. The auto was in gold pen and on card. All corners were intact with no visible damage to all cards in this break. I’ve heard and read horror stories of damaged cards! Besides the big hit, I must admit that my excitement continued as I was going over the break to find a “Materials Combo” of Matt Forte & Walter Payton card among the other cards. My humble opinion is that as pricy as these cards were, the stock quality was exceptional, the print quality and design was well executed. Although I got some unknown rookies in this particular set, the majority of this pack was nothing short of a top notch, high end product that did not disappoint! Panini has gone above and beyond all of my expectations, this is a product that I would definitely recommend to other hobby collectors. With this in mind, topping this product in 2013 will be a challenge.

Every card in my pack was dinged on the corners and didn’t get a single card out of 12 in the pack that would even list or book in the price guide, wish I had my $ back, could have bought 2 boxes of something else!

Jamey F….you nailed it!!! You should get a job with beckett, reviewing products for their monthly JOKE magazine….I loved the product as design goes…Im just sick of these Super Hi end products putting bum jerseys when someone is paying $50 a pack. I opened 3 cases (12 boxes) and pretty well overall but nonetheless, I understand that not every card can be a quote unquote winner but at least make the jerseys multi color or at the VERY least, limit the ALL WHITE jerseys/patches. Nothing worse then paying 1100 for a case of 24 packs and get those market already flooded regular ol’ jerseys! WE NEED UD BACK WITH A NFL LICENSE

Much like Nick, with whom I am familiar through Panini’s collector blog, I found the company’s “Black” to be a fun, exciting, really well-executed product.
The Good: Beautiful parallels and a badd ass design! I pulled a trio of autographs and a trio of mem’ cards. Mixed in were “RCs” of Bryce Brown and Dunta Robinson.
The LaMichael James autographed 2/C patch /99 is as beautifully designed a rook’ as one will find in any super-high end product. HOWEVER, the card also has a deep background and James’ auto gets utterly lost therein. The gold ink was saved for another sub-set and it could have been put to excellent use here.
The other 2 rookie autos I pulled, neither player being a household name, are well-executed sticker autos.
The 2 multi-player Jersey cards I pulled bear 1/C swatches the approximate size of a chick-pea. While the player pairings for the 1/C Jersey to Prime patch Jersey cards range from head-scratching to historic, the swatches are just too teeny.
The Bad: The $185 box price (LHS, not online) is bound to level-off to around $165-170, I’m guessing. No matter how well-heeled the collector, however, that’s still a lot of money for a 1-pack break.
The swatches on the multi-player pairings are unsettlingly small. For the same money, collectors would be delighted to forgo the extra hit in favor of a jersey booklet or more generous, more colorful, patches.
Lastly, some of the non-mem sub-sets are busy. With garish silver foil chasing, a number of the sub-sets are just over-done.

Survey Say’s: All in all, a solid and well-intentioned effort from Panini…the only company that I see pushing the borders of the per box experience while fostering a forum for consumers and collectors alike on their multi-purpose Blog. The product should drop in price in the coming weeks, at which point it will become a solid buy and better purchase & stash given the upside abailable in each box. The LaMichael James saved my box. However, if he gets the bulk of the totes next year…& the flashes he demonstrated this year become James’ play to play trademark, then my auto/patch could reach $200-300.
Every Black box, just as every unopened hobby box, represents an opportunity. There are chipping issues and several modest design flaws, as I discovered, but these are relatively minor issues when compared to the product’s upside.In this, the year of RG3, Luck, Weeden,Tannehill, Richardson and Blackmon, Panini Black is a really rock-solid entry into the product-dense Football pool.

This product looks amazing!! I love the gold ink autos on the black background but I always worry about chipping and dinged corners being extra visible on black cards. So if panini keeps that under control then Black could be Rookie of the Year Product!
