2012 Panini Americana Heroes & Legends Trading Cards

Very interesting set for those who appreciate more than just sports cards. The base set is as bland as can be. Black and white? Really? The interest of the set lies as usual, in the inserts. If you are thinking of collecting any sort of master set, be aware that this is one of the deepest checklists you will find anywhere. I am going on four years with this set and it seems I have barely made a dent. Where else can you find astronauts, olympians, and Medal of Honor winners? Be prepared for many different versions of autographs and relics, as well as different color proofs of essentially everything. Compelling and maddening if you are a set collector.

I got a Dan Gable relic card. It is Panini Americana heroes and legends. It’s from the Summer/winter olympics set. It is numbered to 208 and mine is number 18. I believe it is a piece of his head band. Very nice card.

I haven’t seen any of the others, and myself and others have been looking for them everywhere. I was actually skeptical that panini had inserted any since none had surfaced… now we know there was at least 1 in there.

It shouldn’t take long to receive it. In fact, I expect you have it already. Please post it on some forums (maybe Blowout if you’re a member there) to show it off.

I just got the Dwight Eisenhower Redemption for one of the four Historical Signature Materials cards with the cut signature and one of the stars from his uniform. They were apparently the only four redemption cards in the entire set. I’ve entered the code at the Panini website and it seems good to go. I’m looking forward to getting it, but it’ll probably be a while.
Does anyone know if any of the other three have been found?
I like these kinds of sets anyway, and remember getting them when they were still from Donruss. I’ve only bought a few of these boxes from 2012, but one of the others I got held a George HW Bush autograph. The beauty is I would’ve been happy with the boxes with the Bush and Ike autos in them even if those weren’t in there. The rest of the stuff was good enough.
(That said, I’m sure glad I found them!).

I love this product now that it’s a few years removed and the price of a box is dropping considerably. As a NASA buff, it’s been a lot of fun to pull relics and autographs from this checklist. Where else would I find Gene Kranz, Sally Ride and Jim Lovell featured in a product? And that doesn’t even begin to account for the historical figures or USA athletes as well.

Solid product that was overlooked in 2012 due to a price point that was probably just a tad too high. Blasters in retail provide a decent value as well.

Got some nice pulls from my box. Including a medal of honor auto and a gold proof of christie rampone. Was wondering, if had any idea of what gold proofs might be worth?
