2012 Leaf Inscriptions is a new line that gives collectors an inscribed autograph in every pack. Not only does the card come with an athlete's signature, but a small note or quote to go along with it. The release draws from several sports, including baseball, football, basketball and boxing.
2012 Leaf Inscriptions boxes come with just one card per single-pack box. However, that card is guaranteed to be signed on-card, with the added notation, also done by the athlete. Leaf has had similar cards included as inserts in several releases, but this is the first time the concept has been used as the focus for a release.
Among those confirmed for the set are Cal Ripken Jr, Nolan Ryan, Robert Griffin III, Tom Seaver, Rickey Henderson, Tony Gwynn, Scottie Pippen and Pete Rose. With notes like, "I want to eat your children," Mike Tyson's cards from the release are bound to get a lot of attention. Professional wrestlers, often famous for their quotes and one-liners, also appear in the set. Two of the industry's all-time greats on the mic, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, are both a part of 2012 Leaf Inscriptions.
The cards themselves are designed with the inscription in mind. The design leaves a ton of white space with only a small portrait of the athlete and a ribbon at the top of the card. Another ribbon and the Legends of Sport logo frames the bottom of the card.
