2000 Topps Baseball continues with the company's trend toward smaller base sets. Each of the set's two series have just 239 cards, making for a 478-card checklist.

2000 Topps Baseball Cards 2 The design is relatively simple. Silver borders make it instantly recognizable. A large player photo gives way to a small nameplate that includes the player's name and position as well as the year. All text on the card fronts are in foil.

2000 Topps Baseball has several familiar subsets, such as Draft Picks, Seasons Highlights and Prospects. However, there aren't a lot of rookies, particularly in Series 1, because many appeared in 1999 Topps Traded. Card 7 does not exist. The checklist spot was retired following the passing of Mickey Mantle.

The set's greatest challenge, at least for set builders, are the Magic Moments that bookend each series. Each of these ten cards has five different variations, each focusing on a different career highlight of the featured player. The names included in this subset are some of the hobby's biggest, such as Ken Griffey Jr, Derek Jeter, Hank Aaron and Cal Ripken Jr. Although sets are considered complete with just one version of each card, many collectors went after all 50.

Hank Aaron is the fifth player in as many years to have an insert set reprinting original Topps cards. In doing so, he joined Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente and Nolan Ryan. The 23-card insert set showcases all of his base cards from 1954 through 1976. Besides the giveaway of the glossy coating, the cards also have a foil stamp on the front. The Hank Aaron Reprints set has Chrome and Refractor parallels as well as random autographs.

2000 Topps Baseball has several basic inserts. Many of these suffer from being overly generic despite some flashy foil. These include All-Topps Team, Perrenial All-Stars, All-Star Rookie Team, Own the Game, Power Players and Century Best. Hands of Gold celebrate defensive standouts with a design that is die cut to loosely resemble a glove at the top of the card. Combos mixes players, often from different teams. What makes it different is the use of artwork instead of photos.

The autograph checklist in 2000 Topps Baseball is one of the best ever for the flagship set, although the odds of landing one are extremely slim. Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripken Jr, Rafael Palmeiro and Josh Hamilton are just some of the names.

Stadium Relics is the only memorabilia set in 2000 Topps Baseball. Exclusive to hobby jumbo packs, the cards include a stadium relic and an autograph. The impressive lineup includes Willie Mays, Mike Schmidt, Carl Yastrzemski, Don Mattingly, Johnny Bench and Ernie Banks.

Besides regular factory sets, 2000 Topps Baseball also has 4,000 Tiffany-style Limited box sets. These include both the base set and all of the basic inserts. Additionally, basic hobby factory sets have a foil Home Team Advantage stamp on all of the cards.
