1977-78 Topps Hockey Cards
Product Details
In 1977-78 Topps kept its hockey set at 264 cards, which was the same number it featured the previous year. 1977-78 Topps Hockey also continued a streak where the front design was somewhat uninspired. In fact, it seems similar to the one used in 1977 Topps Baseball, with a few minor differences.
Fronts feature a player photo that is either posed or taken during game play. The player's name, position, team name and team logo all appear in the white area below the picture.
1977-78 Topps Hockey backs are vertically oriented and feature a more elaborate design. The player's name appears along the top, with a card number, position and vital stats below it. A graphic hockey stick appears along the left side, and year-by year statistics and a short biography take up the main area of the back. A cartoon about the player appears on the bottom.
All-Star players have a banner stretched along the top of their base cards to highlight the honor. The first eight cards in 1977-78 Topps Hockey feature league leaders in various categories, while the final three recap the final two rounds of Stanley Cup. Team cards have checklist backs and are arranged alphabetically by city, running from cards 71 through 88. Two checklists are included in the set, and Record Breakers from the previous season appear on cards 214 through 218.
1977-78 Topps Hockey has four variations. Cards 138 and 149 originally mixed up Bernie Wolfe and Tom McAdam and were corrected to show the right players. In the meantime, different pictures of Tom Bladon and Rick Lapointe were substituted on cards 131 and 152, respectively. Also, the cards of Stan Gilbertson and Bill Fairbairn differ from their O-Pee-Chee counterparts.
Notable rookies in the set are Mike Milbury and Mike Palmateer. Bobby Orr makes his final appearance on a Topps card.

Steve Brunner
Hello, I was wondering if you could give me the fair market value for the 1977-78 Rick Lapointe error card (Larry Goodenough is pictured shooting the puck)…
Thanks,
Steve
