1969-70 Topps Hockey Cards
Product Details
As the 1960s came to a close, Topps had established its format for it hockey sets. The 1969-70 Topps Hockey set contained 132 cards. It was set up so each team was given its own numerical subset. Finally, the company came up with the idea to incorporate equipment into the design as well.
The fronts of 1969-70 Topps Hockey cards feature a player picture, usually a posed shot against a concrete wall. A team logo was placed inside the picture, in the upper left corner. The player's name and team appear below the picture in the white area that forms the border. To the right is a graphic hockey stick, with a solid-colored puck in the lower right that contains the player's position. The backs are printed in blue and yellow and are vertically oriented. A circle in the upper left corner includes the card number, with the player's name, team and position aligned beside it. They are followed by two lines of vital stats. In the yellow area is a short biography, followed by either a cartoon about the player or a place to affix a stamp that was included inside the wax packages. A line of year and lifetime stats appear along the bottom.
The players are grouped numerically within their own team, and the final card of the set was a checklist card. Any card that has a stamp attached to its back will be considered to be damaged. There are two firsts in 1969-70 Topps Hockey: players are shown with their natural backgrounds, instead of being superimposed against a generic background, and lifetime numbers appear of the first time on the backs.
The only notable rookie in the set is Serge Savard.
