1967 Philadelphia Football Cards
Product Details
For the fourth and final year, the Philadelphia Gum Company issued a 198-card set featuring players from the NFL, while Topps featured the AFL players in its own set. The 1967 set is the easiest to identify quickly, as it features a very noticeable yellow border. This would be the end of the line for Philadelphia's run of sets featuring current NFL players, as Topps would resume making cards of players in both leagues.
Fronts feature a helmetless shot of the player, either as a close-up or posed action shot. The player's name, team and position appear in a solid-colored box that runs along the bottom of the card. The NFL logo appears in a corner at the top. As stated earlier, a yellow border surrounds the card. Backs are brown and white, split into two sections. The left section features a scratch-off question about the player, as well as a helmet-shaped icon with a card number inside. The player's info appears on the right side: the name, team, position and vital stats are followed by a biography.
The set is numbered according to team, with players arranged in alphabetical order by their last name. There are 12 cards for every team, with 10 players, a team photo and a logo card. Three play cards appear near the end of the set. A card with referee signals is included in the set as well. There are also two checklist cards, which make up the last two cards in the set.
The first cards of the New Orleans Saints appear in this set. As an expansion team, their team photo card has been replaced by one that shows its roster. Key rookies include Lee Roy Jordan, Dan Reeves, Leroy Kelly, Jackie Smith, Dave Wilcox and Tommy Nobis.
