1924 V145-2 Hockey Cards

1924 V145-2 Hockey is the second of two Canadian sets labeled V145. The cards from both editions are the same size and have a similar look. Since they were issued without a company name or trademark, little is known about the manner of their release.

Some speculate that a candy company called William Paterson, Ltd. was responsible for the cards. In any case, they have been designated V-series cards due to their similarity to other caramel-issued card sets of the 1920s. Those familiar with the V145-1 and V145-2 sets will be able to spot the differences, but many collectors need a checklist to tell them apart.

1924 V145-2 Hockey Set Details

1924 V145-2 Hockey card fronts feature a green-tinted player picture. A thin black line divides the photo from the white border area. Below the photo is a card number, along with the player's name, team and league designation. The backs are blank.

1924 V145-2 Hockey checklist has 60 cards and they are slightly thinner than the V145-1 cards with smaller borders. Four NHL teams are represented in the set. Players are grouped by team, with Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Hamilton making up the set. Many major stars of the era are included in 1924 V145-2 Hockey, including as Howard "Howie" Morenz, Georges Vezina, Aurel Joliat and Frank "King" Clancy.

While the 1924 V145-2 Hockey cards can be spotted by their greenish tints, that is not the only way to distinguish from V145-1. Fortunately, the only player whose number is the same in both sets is King Clancy, so a checklist can more easily help determine the edition.
